Everyone can benefit from yoga. Its beauty lies in its universality. You can be in a wheelchair, pregnant, recovering from an operation, a child, or elderly. Online yoga classes are suitable for all body types and abilities.
In my classes, I always make several modifications so that all poses can be adjusted to suit everyone's needs and everyone feels included.
Online yoga classes are also ideal for improving mental health, stress, high blood pressure, inflammation, high cholesterol, back pain, or heart problems. Flow yoga has a steady and low impact on our bodies while healing them. There are so many benefits to yoga.
To support cardiovascular fitness and weight loss, I suggest incorporating mindfulness walking, swimming, or cycling into your online yoga practice.
You can incorporate this into your support for Life on the Pointe.
Sometimes, we don't know where to begin to make healthier life changes.
During my 90-day transformational process programme, I'll guide you through movement, mindfulness, energy and breath work, nutrition, exercise and more.
During your practice, you will find a comfortable position on your yoga mat and allow yourself time and permission to become present and prepared. With our minds, breathing, and bodies in alignment, we release the day and step fully onto our mat.
We scan the body for tension and stress under my guidance. Our first breathing exercise involves establishing deep diaphragmatic breathing exercises by "following the breath".
During the seated poses, we would gradually open up, twist the detox organs, bend, stretch, and strengthen our body. We might do the following yoga poses:
I will always demonstrate each exercise and offer modifications so that you can start at a level suitable for your online yoga experience and needs.
Following our 30-minute floor-based warm-up, we will feel warm from within and ready for poses that require more leg work, core strength, and balance.
You can change every pose, so if you can't stand up, use a chair to sit on or support you. In addition, we have various support aids to make your practice more comfortable and accommodating. Here are a few examples of dynamic poses:
Regardless of your experience level or needs, I will always demonstrate each exercise and offer modifications.
Following our standing sequences, we will return to the mat for inversions and core work before our final deep relaxation. Inversions may include the following:
Each exercise will be continuously demonstrated. Every pose has many variations, and I would never expect a beginner or intermediate practitioner to do a headstand in my first class.
Moving on with safe and effective techniques, we will build additional strength and start at the correct level. Sometimes, headstands and shoulder stands aren't advised due to health conditions, so practice with knowledge and guidance.
Everyone loves this part of the class - active meditation. When you practice with commitment and intention, finishing your practice with a full-body, deep, guided relaxation is one of the best gifts you can give your body.
Using guided relaxation techniques helps your nervous system relax fully, allowing your body and mind to centre and heal as needed. We rarely give ourselves permission to sit and be still for 10 minutes every day. When stressed, the body and mind need this: peace, stillness, and listening to our bodies.
Yoga Nidra is practised as follows:
There is no other healing practice like this; it is a beautiful guided practice. I highly recommend you start this practice once a day, maybe before bed, if you struggle with stress, insomnia, anxiety, and feeling grounded or focused.
As a trainee ballerina at the Royal Ballet School, I have been working with body and mind my entire life. Developing the skills I needed as a ballerina required a lot of discipline.
My desire to return to my hometown was not only physical but also emotional, following an international career as a dancer. I returned to Leicester, my hometown, after travelling all over Europe since I was 18. As a dancer, I have gained valuable insight into energy, anatomy, movement, fitness level, mindset, nutrition, and physical wellbeing
I have always been fascinated by how the mind and bodywork. Since the topic of my MA was the mind, I returned to Wigston to complete my Masters of Arts in choreography.
We should reflect on our lives and see how they lead. These small steps have helped me grow spiritually and personally.
In addition to my Master's Degree, I have worked in the dance and education sectors at various Leicester education institutions, such as Leicester College and De Montfort University, and founded a dance school.
I discovered yoga while performing as a professional dancer, and after my first yoga lessons, I was hooked! I felt calm, centred, and connected to something bigger than myself.
Thus, I developed my teaching skills and deepened my yoga practice. In 2007, I earned my 200-hour Sun Power Yoga teacher certification.
I learned about myself through the immersive experience and developed a passion for personal development.
Yoga philosophy has taught me much about myself, including how my body and all its systems work, how my energy body works, how to stay healthy naturally and holistically, how to detoxify my body and mind, and how to control my mind instead of allowing it to control me.
They have not only improved my dance and teaching but also supported me throughout my life.
In addition to teaching yoga in classes in Oadby and Leicester, I offer online yoga classes for students who live further away or prefer to practice at home in their living rooms. Both beginner and advanced yoga classes are available.
I have also developed many wellness, wellbeing, mindfulness, and nutritional support programmes you can follow along with and work with me on your journey.
